Rugby
Sevens is the newest Olympic sport and will be introduced at the Games of the
XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro
in 2016. The Olympics will deliver a new profile for rugby – new audiences, new
commercial opportunities and perhaps new giants of the game. The growth of the game is thus expected to be
phenomenal as both established and developing nations embrace the opportunity
to win an Olympic medal.
The Sevens Coaches Course will provide Rugby Sevens coaches with the opportunity to be exposed to, and
learn from, legends of the Sevens game who have played or coached at the
highest level.
There will
be a strong emphasis on individual skills that relate specifically to the game
of Rugby Sevens, tactical appreciation, strength and conditioning and techniques required to coach at the top level.
Coaches
will be provided with “leading edge” knowledge and the IRANZ staff will
work through team strategy, tactics and game plans with the coaches on the
programme.
