Congratulations to Gary Gold

Wednesday, 18 January 2012

Congratulations to Gary Gold on his new appointment as head coach of Newcastle. We wish him well with the challenges ahead of him.

Gary’s employers have requested that we release him from facilitating our High Performance Coaches course starting 6th February for this vital part of their championship, and for the good of Newcastle and Gary we have agreed to do so.

We are delighted to announce Mick Byrne as his replacement. Mick was Assistant and Forward Coach of Japan during the RWC 2011, and has been Skills Coach for the All Blacks for the past six years. Mick has coached rugby for 14 years with the Wallabies, Springboks and Scotland, in more than 130 internationals under some highly respected mentors, including Scottish legend Sir Ian McGeechan and Australians Rod Macqueen and Eddie Jones.

Byrne's six years under Henry, Wayne Smith and Hansen involved technical work around the lineout, restarts, highball, catching, kicking and attack lines.
